Blue eyes searched the kitchens for the source of the wonderful fragrances that arose from the steaming cauldrons. The chefs stood bent over their work, a few dabbing at stews with ladles and a few pinching some spices into their mixtures. Sarenia carried the meat she had harvested and set it down on the wooden table.

"How is the feast coming on, Erealla?" She inquired. The assistant chef's hazel eyes turned and met hers. A smile passed over the freckled girl's face.

"Sure and I'll have it set afore tomorrow. Is that fresh meat you and Lahira are bringing me?" She inquired, her eyebrows raised. Sarenia smiled as the footsteps behind her grew louder.

Lahira brushed past Sarenia and set her burden on the wooden table, locks of her black hair falling over her dark blue eyes. She slipped her hand through her hair, pushing the few straying tassels behind her ear with her index finger. She smiled at the chef and bowed her head politely.

"Yes, Erealla, we've been making use of the warm weather." She said, mirth shimmering in her eyes as she cast a side-long glance at Sarenia. Erealla shook her head, as if she understood what Lahira had meant in her stare. She giggled softly, then turned and watched one of the younger chefs trying to make a mixture of green beans and some wild rice. She shook her head and brushed him aside, gently taking a pinch of some spice here and adding a bit of garlic there, her eyes strained to her task. The chefs turned and watched her, and she could see from the corner of her eye the young chef was watching her work with wide eyes. He had the words I'd never thought of that written all over his face.

Sarenia turned and watched Lahira. Erealla shook her head.

"Such talent wasted on herbs and remedies, eh?" Sarenia said nothing, her pale blue gaze fixed on her friend. Then the WaterClan leader smiled and walked to where Lahira was making a stew. She took a pinch of some spice and held it over the coldron, arching her eyebrow challengingly at Lahira. The two smiled slyly at each other, then the chefs began to get out cooking supplies in a bustle and hury. When they were all set out Sarenia dropped the spice into the pot and whirled around, beginning her recipe for Waterfall Fruitcake and Watercress Wallop Cake.

Lahira brought her hands behind her back as the challenge began. She felt a bit then with a whiplash motion of her wrist began to slice some fruits all at the same time. The chefs in the kitchen avoided the dueling desert makers, knowing that it was a tradition for the leader to challenge the healer to a cookoff. Lahira moved gracefully between the bodies, picking up the things she needed for her trifle recipe. She began to mix the ingrediants into a bowl, her hands flying as she worked with exhillirating speed. Lahira had once wanted to be a cook, and the Head Cook would have excepted her readily if she had wanted to train. But somewhere deep inside her, Lahira knew she was drawn to the Spirit World, to SpiritClan itself... and even though she had passion for cooking, she had passion for healing, too.
